On 19 June 2025, the POLYMEER and FURIOUS projects hosted the joint webinar “Biopolymers for a Sustainable Future” as part of the official EU Green Week 2025 partner events.
Bringing together leading researchers, industry experts and innovators, the webinar explored the role of bio-based and circular polymers in enabling the EU’s green transition. With over 60 participants joining live, the event highlighted how novel bioplastics from renewable feedstocks can meet the needs of sectors such as agriculture, packaging and textile, offering circular alternatives to fossil-based plastics.
Highlights from the webinar included:
- Assunta Marrochi (University of Perugia) presenting POLYMEER, focusing on transforming brewer’s spent grain into grain high-performance, recyclable bioplastics.
- Debora Puglia (University of Perugia) sharing advancements from the FURIOUS project in developing furan-based polymers for specialised applications.
- A dynamic panel discussion featuring Nadia Lotti (University of Bologna), Daniele Spinelli (NTT) and Filip Miketa (Bio-Mi) on real-world applications for bio-based materials.
The session concluded with a Q&A and a call to continue advancing circular bioeconomy solutions across Europe.
