POLYMEER recently took part in the joint webinar “From Lab to Road: Biobased Polymers and Composites for Automotive Applications”, organised together with the FURIOUS and THERMOFIRE projects. The online event brought together experts from across Europe to explore the role of bio-based materials in advancing sustainability in the automotive sector.
The session covered the full value chain, from material development to industrial application. Presentations addressed key topics such as polymer testing for automotive requirements, thermoplastic preparation, composite formulation, and the integration of sustainable materials into real-world applications. The webinar also highlighted the importance of collaboration between research organisations, industry and end-users to accelerate innovation and market uptake.
POLYMEER was represented by three speakers contributing complementary perspectives. Assunta Marrocchi introduced the project through the POLYMEER project presentation, outlining its vision to transform brewers’ spent grain (BSG) into innovative bio-based polymers. Odete Duarte presented Polymer Flat Knit Automotive Textile, showcasing developments in textile applications and their relevance for the automotive sector. Finally, Massimo Fortunato delivered the talk Partnering for Impact: Unlocking the Full Potential of the Value Chain, emphasising the importance of collaboration to bring bio-based solutions closer to market.
Together, these contributions demonstrated how POLYMEER addresses the entire innovation pathway, from raw material valorisation to application and market integration.
The webinar provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and for strengthening synergies between EU-funded projects. It also reinforced the importance of cross-project collaboration in accelerating the transition towards a circular and sustainable bioeconomy.
